GCF is supporting two Tearfund Connected Church Projects : Self-help groups in Ethiopia and the Mozambique Kubatsirana project. GCF has contributed £4,000 to each of these two projects.

Mozambique Kubatsirana project

Amount required: £100,000 each financial year.

Kubatsirana means mutual help in Portuguese. This faith-based organisation promotes church-based volunteering through a network of enthusiastic pastors in more than five districts of the Manica province in Mozambique. This project offers access to treatment, pastoral care, general support for people living with HIV, as well as youth prevention HIV programmes. People living with HIV are helped to get the most out of life.

Kubatsirana was featured in Alive, Tearfund's latest HIV campaign.

Key Activities

  • Care programmes – support groups for people living with HIV, help with access to treatment, support for economic strengthening activities, psychologically and socially enhancing activities.

  • Mitigation programmes – provision of shelter to orphans, facilitation of foster care, health educational and support, development of life and work skills.

  • Prevention initiatives – coffee clubs for girls, youth clubs teaching about HIV prevention.

  • Pastoral Care – to the whole community.

  • Economic empowerment – small business loans, agriculture, 0buying and selling.
